What is Yoga-Diving?

You may have visions of yourself with your fins wrapped around your head, engaged in a crazy breath of fire, chanting OM underwater! Yoga Diving is far simpler than it sounds. Yoga means union. The practice of Yoga develops the body physically and mentally to a level of vibrant body and clear mind. In this state, the body is naturally more relaxed, alert and ready to absorb the diving experience.

Already the world's leading free divers use Yoga breathing to maximize their oxygen intake, so it seems quite natural that Yoga combined with Diving can greatly enhance the overall experience you will have.

The Yoga Diving Course:

This course combines techniques of Hatha Yoga* asanas (body postures) and pranayama (breathwork) with diving in a naturally beautiful environment. The aim of Yoga Diving is to relax and stretch the body, clear the mind and promote more energy in each participant, so they can have an optimum diving experience. We bring together Yoga asanas and pranayama with diving techniques. This gives us a more intimate encounter with the underwater nature and also helps us to experience deep stillness and relaxation.

Combining Yoga and Diving allows us to experience a higher level of body-consciousness through the weightlessness achieved through diving.

The course also helps many to overcome their fears of the underwater, as the Yoga prepares each participant to feel more relaxed and competent about their diving. The Yoga involves a combination of strengthening the body, improving the consumption of air, flexibility and concentration, which all benefit diving. The Yoga stretches also release any post-dive back aches which may result from carrying diving tanks and equipment.

The Yoga Diving course consists of two classes:

  • breathwork and dive theory and
  • a 45 min practical: Introdiving

If you are already a qualified diver, you can enjoy this new combination of Yoga Diving and continue your diving experiences with us. Instead of the Introdiving, we offer a Fundiving excursion (please have a look at the timetable). In addition, you can obtain whatever certification you would like during the week, according to your previous training and experience. This includes the most basic Open Water Diver Course, Advanced Open Water Diver Course, Rescue Diver etc

* Hatha Yoga: Ha-sun, Tha-moon Hatha Yoga emphasises balancing the opposing forces of the body, such as masculine energy (the sun) and feminine energy (the moon), left and right of body, inhalation and exhalation, thereby restoring the body to its natural equilibrium. Through the practising of the postures and the breathwork, hatha yoga provides a natural counter-balance to the stresses in the body and helps achieve a sense of inner calm and a stronger physical body.
